"If we don't kill corruption, it will kill us" - VP Osibanjo
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was a guest on Channels TV where he was asked about the recent arrest of some judges by the DSS. Osinbajo who is a Professor of Law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, said he would rather not make an informal statement on the matter but that going by a general overview, what is being fought in this instance is corruption and that going by what his boss President Buhari, says, if we don't kill corruption, it will kill us. He says the people who loot Nigeria's territory have the means to hire the best lawyers who also are able to keep a case in court for 5-10 years.
"I don't want to make off the cuff(informal) but as a general remark, my position is that we are dealing with an problem. We are dealing with an existential problem. It accounts for everything. Look at what happened in the North East. Many many soldiers lost their lives. Speaking to some of the widows of these soldiers, you are just outraged by the fact that people embezzled the money that was supposed to have been used to equip the soldiers. Equip them physically, give them bulletproof vest, put them in proper armored tanks rather than fake armored tanks. These are the sorts of things that anywhere else in the world, the outrage will be such that you and I would literarily be standing up on the streets to say where are these guys who did this and if we don't feel that way, it just continues to diminish us. My son was asking me the other day that these people who did all these things, stole N50 billion and others, I haven't seen any of them locked up. I said we have a system. We have got to follow the rule of law. We are doing so. We have got to take them to a court of law. We are not in a society where we are just going to tie someone to a stick and shoot them. We have got to go to a court of law. Many of those who do these things have the resources to hire the best lawyers who can keep a case in court for 5 years, 10 years. So we have got to keep fighting that also"he said
