Appeal Court Reportedly Orders Freezing of Accounts of Imo State Govt. Over N1 billion Debt
The Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, has reportedly ordered the freezing of all the accounts of Imo State Government and the confiscation of all monies domiciled in them.
According to Vanguard, Justice G. Mbaba ordered that the monies in the accounts should be used to pay the state government’s debt of N1 billion being owed to E.F. Network Nigeria Limited and Gideon Egbuchulam.
Hon. Justice Maryann Anenih of Maitama High Court, Abuja, and Hon. Justice Ijeoma Agugua, in suit numbers FCT/HC/M/9257/2016 and HU/538/2011, had ruled in favour of the contracting firm and Egbuchulam.
The appeal was filed by the Governor of Imo State, the Attorney General of Imo State, the Environmental Transformation Committee and the Ministry of Petroleum and Environment, Imo State.
Vanguard reports that no government official was prepared to comment on the judgment as at press time.
